Approach

We treat negotiation as a problem to be solved, not a battle to be won.

Our approach is rooted in interest-based negotiation: rigorous analytical preparation paired with a deep, practised understanding of human psychology and communication under pressure.

Chōtei was founded on a simple observation: the organisations that lose the most in conflict are rarely the ones without resources. They are the ones without a structured, impartial way to have the difficult conversation before it becomes an expensive one.

Dr. Jorgen Bauwens is a public health expert with twenty years' experience in health-sector consulting, research and international programme management, including a European Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) consortium and a Horizon Europe programme of the European Commission. He has managed large national and international networks of experts and stakeholders, and works at the science-policy interface, bridging academics and policy makers, from federal health authorities and health promotion bodies to hospitals and practitioners. He completed ESSEC Business School's specialisation in negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution, and works in English, German, French and Dutch.

That background shapes the Chōtei approach. Complex disputes involve many parties, technical evidence and institutional constraints. We map the interests, test the facts, and build agreement step by step.

Expertise & integrity

The principles every engagement is held to.

I

Impartiality & fairness

We represent the process, not either side. No engagement begins until every party is confident the ground is level.

II

Confidentiality & discretion

What is said in the room stays in the room. Nothing about an engagement is disclosed, referenced, or implied outside it.

III

Tenacity & dedication

Difficult conversations are not cut short for comfort. We stay with a dispute until there is a durable agreement, not just a pause in hostilities.

IV

Structured dialogue

Every session follows a disciplined process, with the same rigour applied whether the dispute involves two people or twenty.

Patience is not the absence of urgency. It is what makes resolution durable.

If a difficult conversation is already overdue, the next step is a confidential one.
